Leicestershire Tipi Wedding
Today we are lucky enough to share the gorgeous tipi wedding of Jen and Spencer. We first met Jen at a Tour event of Bawdon Lodge Farm. Spencer was away at sea at the time so Jen took on the initial wedding research.
Having a tipi wedding gives you as a couple the freedom to get playful with your celebration space bringing through your own personalities. Jen and Spencer nailed this! Over to Jen to tell you more about their tipi wedding;
How did your story begin?
Spencer and I met online on Plenty of Fish. My nan always used to tell me as a teenager when I was upset over a boy that there were ‘plenty more fish in the sea’ and it turns out that’s actually where he was! Being an officer in the merchant navy, Spencer was away at sea when we first got chatting. His picture was him in his uniform and he had these lovely big blue eyes – swoon. He messaged back and we arranged to meet for a coffee the following month. We sat on a comfy sofa and chatted for hours, it was like we were the only two people in the bar.
Spencer had a big proposal in mind, but it didn’t quite go to plan. Our favourite country house gardens that we go to were unexpectedly shut so he ended up insisting we went out for dinner. We were stood in the garden of a country pub stroking a horse in the next field when I asked him if I could have a pony and he replied, ‘no but would you like this instead?’ and pulled out my engagement ring. Spencer had asked my dad’s permission before popping the questions. It was on my dad’s birthday and he still jokes that it was the best birthday present ever – another man asking to take me off his hands forever!
What did everybody wear?
My dress was simple and classic. It accentuated my waist nicely, had soft detailing on the bodice and the sparkle on the belt set off my wedding and engagement ring perfectly.
I wanted my look to be natural and my hair and make-up artists got it spot on. They enhanced my everyday look with a subtle smoky eye and soft pinky peach tones.
My three best friends from school, sister and Spencer’s sister were our bridesmaids. The colour of their dresses matched my MG Midget vintage car and they all really liked the design.
I had a hand-tied bouquet of pale blue hydrangea, gypsophila, ivory avalanche roses and green lisianthus and our bridesmaids carried posies of gypsophila tied with a long white ribbon.
Spencer, his best man Adam and ushers all wore tails in a grey and blue combo. Their outfits looked amazing next to the bridesmaids and really suited our dads too.
Tell us about your tipi reception.
The setting for our tipis at Bawdon Lodge Farm was idyllic in the stunning Leicestershire countryside.
For our signage we used chalkboards that stood on little easels. We hired various rustic props from Bawdon Lodge Farm such as apple crates, giant cable reels and straw bales. The blue and cream bunting complemented the look and feel of the day.
We had wooden laser-cut place settings and Harry Potter themed table names along with a Rainbows Hospice charity favour. Jam jars filled with copper wire LED lights that looked like fireflies were dotted along the tables.
Small jars brimming with flowers were placed around the tipi and for our centrepieces we stood a Starbucks mug filled with a succulent plant on stacks of old books.
Our floral table plan really complemented our theme and looked great in the wooden frame that stood on a decorative easel.
Instead of a traditional guest book, we asked guests to write their well-wishes on wooden hearts that were hung from a tree decorated with fairy lights.
What details made your day amazing?
Our photographer, Chris, was amazing. He has an eye capturing those tiny little moments and we’ll treasure our wedding album for years to come.
We had an incredible naked lemon drizzle cake with freshly made lemon curd running through the middle – it tasted amazing.
We hired alpacas for our drinks reception. Who doesn’t love two insanely fluffy cute alpacas, wearing bow ties that you can cuddle and have your photo taken with!
Our band did an acoustic duo for us during reception drinks and dinner and then filled the dance floor from the first dance until midnight.
What’s your biggest wedding top tip?
It’s your day so be sure to pick what makes you happy and your day will be the best day ever.
