Alex & Krysia’s Carnival Tipi Wedfest
It is with pure joy that I get to share this week’s real wedding with you. It took over 3 years and lots of postponements, but Alex and Krysia got to finally have their carnival tipi wedfest in June.
They celebrated with a slightly smaller party of their nearest and dearest in three giant hat tipis at Bawdon Lodge Farm. And after such a long time in the making, it was the most perfect celebration. Full of smiles, joy and love, and we can’t wait for you to see it.
With Alex talking us through the details, and Amanda Forman‘s amazing photography skills, here it is. Grab a cuppa, sit back and enjoy!
What made you decide on an outdoor carnival tipi wedfest?
We decided on an outdoor wedding as we didn’t want the traditional ‘formal’ wedding vibe. We wanted it to be fun filled, relaxed and easy to enjoy for all ages. It allowed us to incorporate more of our personalities into the day for everyone to enjoy.
What did you both wear, what about the rest of the bridal party?
We both wore wedding dresses (A-line.)
Our flower girls all wore pale pink sequined top dresses with little converse booties so they could enjoy all the activities outside the tipi.
Tell us about your ceremony.
Our ceremony took place in the barn at Bawdon Lodge Farm.
We created a focal point which sat at the back of the venue using silver birch tree trunks and a macrame backdrop hanger with our florist (The Flower Patch) adding a beautiful array of flowers to each corner.
We kept the ceremony simple, with our beautiful flower girls all going down the aisle before us. Alex entered next with her father, followed by Krysia with her father.
How did you feed your guests in the day? What influenced your menu choice.
In the day we hired the AMAZING Gorgeous Gourmet Grub who created a multitude of home made seasoned chicken flatbreads with every flavoured sauce you could imagine to accompany. For the vegetarians and vegans they created an edible tortilla bowl filled to the brim with chilli. Every single guest commented on just how amazing GGG’s food was and wanted to know where they could find them to have it again!
For desert, we hired Old Manor House Bakery who created an array of flavoured pancakes for the guests. They did a multitude of flavours from the traditional lemon and sugar right through to dripping with toffee sauce. I saw a few of our guests sneak back for seconds.
What about for your evening food?
To see the guests through until the evening, we created a series of cheese boards which Bawdon Lodge kindly handed out to each individual table.
And the evening saw us use Biddulphs Pizzeria who created a number of different topped pizzas which allowed everyone to have their pick. Nothing beats a good pizza does it??
We chose this menu/style of food as we wanted all our guests to feel relaxed and not be pressured to eat at specific times. We wanted everyone to just chill, grab what they wanted when they wanted. But make sure they were full by the end of the evening.
WE CANNOT THANK OUR FOOD VANS ENOUGH FOR WHAT THEY PROVIDED ON THE DAY! 10000/10 service.
Carnival Tipi Wedfest Entertainment
Alex and Krysia did so much to make sure their guests were entertained throughout their day. By creating a carnival atmosphere, with inflatable helter skelter and shooting range. Then adding lots of amazing games from hook a duck, and hoola hoops to crazy golf and an outdoor photo booth.
How would you describe your theme/styling?
I guess you would call it ‘rustic.’
Alex and Krysia did all their styling themselves, with Krysia taking charge inside the tipis and Alex organising all the outdoor styling and activities. Including their amazing handmade WEDFEST sign, which they had to store in their house for 3 years due to postponing their big day!
What are your Top Tips for planning a tipi wedding?
Top Tip 1
Setting achievable goals has to be the easiest suggestion.
Don’t give yourself a week to do everything – give yourself some time to make your vision come together. It isn’t easy pulling all of the suppliers and ideas together but when you do – OMG it’s worth it!
Top Tip 2
The second top tip from us would be ‘GET CREATIVE!’
You can achieve so much with a tipi wedding and with it being a blank canvas you are able to literally create whatever feel you want to your day.
When we first saw the tipis we knew this was the wedding for us, it allowed us to put our personality both into and outside of the tipis. Inside we created kids corners and decorative features and outside was like a fun fair with inflatable helter skelters, shooting ranges and I even made a hook a duck with prizes to be won (I’d say for the kids but the adults played too!)
Top Tip 3
The third tip would be ‘HAVE FUN WHILE YOU DO IT!’
If it isn’t fun, you’re not doing it right. (That might sound somewhat sarcastic but it really isn’t!!) The whole point of a tipi/outdoor wedding is to get involved and get down and dirty. If you aren’t enjoying what you have set out, and always remember it is easy to go back to the drawing board and start again if something doesn’t feel right!!
Top Tip 4
The final tip would be ‘BOUNCE IDEAS WITH YOUR SUPPLIERS!’
With these sorts of weddings, you aren’t just a number – the suppliers become heavily invested in helping you achieve your day. If there is something you want to suggest or request, ask them for their advise. They may know a supplier who can help, or may have even been lucky enough to see someone previously create something similar.
The suppliers become part of your family during the planning process, and it’s so great to get their opinions and suggestions to work alongside yours!
