Cattows Farm Wedding
This week we are taking you to the gorgeous Cattows Farm for the real wedding of George & Louise. This awesome couple celebrated in three of our giant hat tipis back in June.
Being big festival lovers they really wanted to bring the festival vibe to their special day, and boy what a job they did! George and Louise had the most gorgeous sun to shine on their day, with lots of smiles and games creating the laidback wedding day they had always dreamt of.
They talk us through their day here, alongside photos from the super talented Heidi McClymont Photography.
What made you decide on an outdoor / tipi wedding?
Our joint love of music festivals. We love the laid back nature of a Tipi wedding, the scenery and atmosphere it brings. We didn’t want a formal wedding in any sense of the word so this suited us brilliantly.
What did you both wear?
George wore a blue suit from Burton with a burgundy tie that fitted in with the colour scheme of the day. True to his nature he left it a few weeks before the day to buy it! Luckily he found something he loved! He wanted something a bit “different” so went for almost royal.
I found my dress at Wed2Be in Hinckley, I went the October before the wedding just to try some dresses on and get an idea of what I might like. Never did I think I would buy one there and then, but I fell in love! I knew I wanted something I could wear flats or no shoes with and slightly boho in design.
What about the rest of the bridal party?
The groomsmen wore matching blue trousers with a white shirt and burgundy tie to fit in with George’s. Again we wanted them to be comfortable and more casual so we didn’t have jackets.
Having 8 bridesmaids it was a real task to find something for them all. I knew from the beginning I liked the mix/match style and knowing the girls and their differing styles that this would be better. I wanted them to be able to be themselves and more importantly for them to be comfortable in what they were wearing. We decided on navy for the colour as we felt it was universally complementary and went with the flowers/colour scheme. Then ordered lots and lots of different dresses from Asos and had them over to try on and each pick which ones they loved. This was nice as we made an afternoon of it and had drinks and lunch too.
Tell us about your wedding ceremony.
Casual, natural. Cattows farm outside under the tree, with people sat on hay bales.
It was happy and laid back with lots of laughter and tears. The weather was perfect and we couldn’t have asked for better.
Our sisters were our witnesses and we had readings from George’s mum and one of my bridesmaids. It was perfect!
How did you feed your guests?
We decided on barbecue food in the day and had a chip van come in the evening!
We wanted the kind of food found at music festivals and easy food for the evening that people need after a day of partying in the sun!
Again we knew a sit down 3 course kind of meal definitely wasn’t our thing and we wanted to make it communal to get people talking to each other, so the food was on platters to share.
How would you describe your theme/styling?
Festival themed / bohemian. We also wanted to show our love for Marvel comics so brought that in with the table names, settings and signage.
The flowers were natural, wild flowers and bright!
What are your Top Tips for planning a tipi wedding?
Top Tip 1
Less is more in all senses of the phrase. The tipis look so good anyway you don’t have to decorate them too heavily. The atmosphere they bring is amazing. Don’t worry too much about the little details.
Top Tip 2
The guests said that the blankets we got for the evening were a good gesture as it did get a bit chilly! We also had emergency umbrellas but luckily didn’t need them!
