Garden Wedding Tipi Hire
So you are planning your wedding, but you would like to have it at home in your family garden. Every year we help couples do exactly this – plan and host a garden wedding in a tipi. We’ve helped couples create a celebration space for an intimate guest list of 30 to the full let’s party with 150 guests.
Getting Started
Your first consideration when planning a tipi garden wedding is what will fit. Normally, we would start wedding planning with your guest numbers. But for garden wedding planning, we tip this on its head a little. Simply because the space and what fits may dictate the size of your guest list.

Measure Your Garden
In the first instance, it is always good to get an idea yourself of the garden size. For the tipis, they need to be erected on a lawned area. Draw out and measure the area you have that is lawned.
Unlike a traditional marquee or our sailcloth tent, additional space is not needed for the guy ropes with the tipis. We just need to ensure we have space to lay out the canvas and pull this over. This could even be on a decked area.
Here is a size guide of the tipis to get you started;

Guest Numbers
Once you have measured your lawned area, you will be armed with a better idea of what size tipi setup will fit your space. If you have a smaller garden, your guest numbers may be influenced by the available size. We would always advise keeping close to these numbers to ensure you have a comfortable space. If you are fortunate enough to have a large garden, you may be able to invite everyone on your list without limitations.
This is a little like the chicken and the egg. What comes first – measuring your garden and working your guest list to what capacity you have available, OR write your guest list and create the structure sized based on that. If you have a large garden, it is less important which way round you do it. However, if your garden is on the smaller size, it is important to work your guest list around what you have available.

Access
Our team prides themselves on their build quality and expertise. In an ideal world, the team would like to be able to park next to the area they are building for an efficient build. However, we know this isn’t always possible. If equipment is needed to be walked on site, you’ll need to have a wide enough access gate into the garden that allows the 6.2 meter poles to be walked down easily. We’ve worked in all different size gardens, so we’ll work with you to make your day work.
Site Visit
Initially we can work with you to do a desk top site visit, we can do this today. After this we can then organise for a team member to pop over to meet with you to confirm everything fits as you had hoped.

Confined to the Outside
Often when having a home wedding, it may be important to you to keep the guests confined to the garden without the need to use the house. This means it is important to make the outside space as self-sufficient as possible.
For example, the use of toilets. These can be hired in to save using the home toilet or the need for guests to come inside. For larger garden weddings, these tend to go behind/next to the tipi. For smaller gardens, these tend to stay on the driveway to the front of the house.

Powering Your Garden Wedding
The temptation is often to use the power from the house when you are having a garden tipi wedding. This may be okay if you have little power requirements, but you need to make sure you have assessed all aspects of your supplier power needs.
As a rule, the largest power puller is any heating elements such as a tea urn, deep fat fryers, heaters, and plate warmers. Most of these needs come from your caterer.
For larger weddings, we’d always encourage you to use a generator as this can be positioned outside behind the tipis, but will power everything you have going on throughout the whole celebration. Without the worry of tripping the house’s electricity.

No Corkage
Often a key benefit of couples having a garden wedding is the ability to offer a free bar. With no corkage issues, you really are free to run a bar service the way you choose. This might be a full free bar or half and half, introducing a bar service into the evening.
Parking
If you are fortunate enough to have an adjacent field or paddock for your guest to use for parking, you’ve got a big tick in this box already. If you’ve nowhere for guests to park, with a little planning, this really isn’t an issue.
Options could be to hire a village hall or local pub or sports centre car park for guests to use. You may choose to bus guests from the church to your home so cars can be left at church, or taxis can be gotten to church.
However you choose to manage this, just remember to communicate this with your guests so they know what’s expected of them.

The Lawn
With a home garden tipi wedding, you have time to plan the garden. You may choose to add in extra florals, build a floral arch, or add in extra lighting which you will have the benefit of enjoying long after the wedding.
The lawn area the tipis are going on needs to be a short lawn that has had the grass collected and cleared of any pet parcels.
