Palm Springs Tipi Styling

Tara of Tara Knott Styled Events and Maria of The Flower Patch worked together alongside a handful of other amazingly talented suppliers to create this vibrant, tropical wedding tipi styling look in our Three Giant Hat Tipis. A complete wow with pockets of surprises throughout. Tara and Maria talk us through how they created the look:

The Tablescape & Styling

The concept for the spring showcase was bright inspired by all the colours of palm springs. Vibrant and fun with a slight retro feel.

We created brightly coloured tassels for the Tipi to hang across the wedding breakfast space. It made this area feel instant party. Teamed with bright florals from Maria at The Flower Patch and lots of bright fabrics and candles.

The colour popped against the canvas. Creating an inviting space and setting the tone for the kind of wedding you would want to have there.

Allie from Allie Paints Signs created a statement piece with a billboard sign to welcome guests. We teamed with this deck chairs and a parasol to give the entrance a fun and different look. I always like to include some kind of a posing station that guests can use for photos. This is something I encourage couples to have for their day.

The Bridal Bouquet

The colour theme was pinks and yellows with some greenery. Maria said, ‘I will always try and use British grown flowers, even growing them myself, or using locally grown from other sources. All the flowers in this bouquet were locally grown and sourced from a grower down in Cornwall.

We used seasonal Spring flowers, with some Ranunculus, Tulips and lots of the pretty blossom were all from the garden which added a nice touch. I did a small bouquet which cascaded, adding to the look. The groom’s buttonhole had a few of those elements too.”

Tipi styling

I wanted to show how British grown flowers could marry up with Tara’s tropical palm springs theme, so we had pillar boxes at the front of the Tipi to mark the entrance and give some impact for when people walked in. They all had a lot of foliage and blossom, with the same flowers as the bridal bouquet in pinks and yellows.

We also had meadow boxes, which are so versatile as you can easily move them, whether that be from the ceremony to the top table or elsewhere. We had a small meadow box for the top table again using the spring flowers.

For the tables I always try and keep it simple, especially with more and more people having sharing platters, so you want to ensure there’s still room and not overload the tables. Bud vases are always a great option for this with just a few stems in them, and you can have as many or as few as your budget allows.

We had a hanging installation, which is always lovely to have, but with the showcases being over a few days, it can be hard to keep the flowers that long out of water. I won’t use any floral foam due to it being a single use plastic. To overcome this I dry a lot of flowers myself, so we decided this would fit in with the style we were going for. We did three flower clouds, having grasses and dried eucalyptus and dried honesty for some sparkle. Dried flowers will always be a bit muted in comparison to fresh flowers but it’s becoming a more popular choice as they can be cheaper than fresh flowers, and so this is a hire option I now offer.
