With Kerry and Tom’s original wedding supposed to be in Ibiza, they still wanted to try and bring that Ibiza feel to their day. Hence the Outdoor Wedding!

Kerry and Tom created the most amazing Ibiza themed summer Sailcloth wedding. With Cattows Farm and our Two Pole Sailcloth Tent as their backdrop, their day was just so unique.

The vibrant colours and disco themed decor created a perfect ambiance for this romantic celebration. Alongside the beautiful floral arrangements, mouth-watering cuisine and so many joyful moments shared by the couple and their guests. All under the scorching summer sunshine. It really was a stunning celebration.

What made you decide on an outdoor wedding?

We were originally supposed to get married in 2020 in Ibiza but obviously that couldn’t go ahead because of Covid. We had rearranged our Ibiza wedding but it was getting to the point where a lot of the people we wanted to be there couldn’t make it. The most important thing for us on our wedding day was to have all our family and friends around us! Because the original wedding was supposed to be in Ibiza, we still wanted to try and bring that Ibiza feel to our day. Hence the outdoor wedding! We felt it was the best way to completely personalise our day, without being restricted by the decor / space / food & drink choices of a traditional wedding venue.

What did you and your bridesmaids wear?

My wedding dress is actually the second dress I bought! I originally had a different dress for our Ibiza wedding. But because it was over 3 years before that I had chosen it, I ended up changing my mind. Especially because we were now doing the wedding in the middle of a field. I felt like I wanted something a bit more floaty and comfortable! So I bought my dress from a second hand wedding dress site called StillWhite. It hadn’t been worn but still had the tags on, so I got it for a much cheaper price!

My veil was customised with real hydrangea petals that had been dried, from a company called Sash & Veil. I also bought a headband and matching earrings from an Australian website called Ael Este. Because my dress was fairly simple, I wanted something that would still stand out at the evening reception when I took my veil off!

The bridesmaids wore multiway dresses from Eliza & Ethan. They were amazing as it meant they could all wear them whichever way they felt comfortable! I knew when I first saw those dresses that they would be perfect for the girls as they are all different shapes and sizes. As well as one of them being pregnant at the time!

And what about Tom & his groomsmen?

The men bought black tuxedos from Moss Bros. We had decided we wanted something that when you looked back at your wedding photos, still looked timeless and classic! They then had them tailored to fit which definitely helped with how smart they all looked! Tom had treated himself to a Rolex for his 30th birthday earlier in the year but had been saving it to wear on the wedding day!

Although we are both into fashion, we didn’t want what we wore on our wedding day to be dictated by fashions at the time! We wanted something classic and timeless!

Tell us about your ceremony.

We got legally married at a registry office in 2020, on the original date we had planned in before our Ibiza wedding. So we didn’t want our ceremony to feel like a fake wedding as all our family and friends obviously knew we were already married! Although we were already married, we still wanted to have a ceremony and treat the day like a proper wedding since we never got to do this before.

Jo from My Perfect Ceremony completely got this and almost conducted our ceremony as a renewing of our vows which was amazing! We had the ceremony under the tree on the Cattows Farm site and used hay bales and floor matting to form the aisle. Then made our own ceremony backdrop with a moongate arch and neon sign. Which our florist then added flowers on to! We decided to have our ceremony at 2.30pm which gave us plenty of time to get ready and have a really chilled morning beforehand.

How would you describe your theme / styling?

We didn’t have a theme in particular but we definitely wanted to bring the Ibiza vibe we had been trying for with all the other elements of our wedding day. We used Tara Knott to create a disco ball installation which hung from the tension wire in the middle of the Sailcloth. It featured streamers in the colours we had used for all the other decorations around the Sailcloth.

The majority of the styling and decoration I actually did myself! We purchased lots of different sized vases which our florist filled with flowers. Then also had a mixture of candlesticks and candles in pink, orange and yellow. These were all placed down the centre of the long tables. We used matching pink napkins and on top of these placed a mini disco ball with a name tag on to be used as a favour and place setting. All of the signage, table numbers and menus I created myself using acrylic sheets, a Cricut machine and paint in our chosen colours! For the flowers we just wanted something bright, fun and non traditional. Our florist Emily Robbins completely understood this and used lots of different colours which looked amazing on the day!

How did you feed your guests in the daytime?

We didn’t want to have traditional wedding food like we have had at all the other weddings we have been to. We decided to base our daytime food choices on a Spanish theme to bring some of the Ibiza feel into the day. Hunger were amazing at catering to this. They created a Spanish menu with tapas dishes. Homemade bread and dips for a starter. Paella, patatas bravas and salad as a main course.

We had previously decided that we would like to have ice creams as canapés and we were hoping for amazing weather which we definitely got on the day! We used Jenni & Ice cream and had her unlimited package. This was perfect whilst our guests were waiting for dinner to start, especially because it was around 32°C on the day!

And what about your evening food?

Instead of having a pudding and wedding cake after dinner, we ordered loads of Krispy Kreme doughnuts and had a doughnut tower. We thought this would be a better idea for our guests to be able to grab and snack on whilst they were drinking and dancing!

In the evening, we had Holly from Italian Stallion Pizzas come to feed our guests. Because we ended up having our meal quite late, people weren’t necessarily hungry when Holly first arrived. So she made and cooked a load of pizzas and left them all out for everyone to snack on throughout the night which was amazing!! Everyone definitely appreciated this later on after they had been drinking for a few hours.

We chose to use Mambo Mobile Bars for our wedding bar and they were honestly amazing! They allowed us to completely personalise the whole menu. From all the cocktails on the main menu to our reception drinks, which we decided to have our favourite cocktails instead of champagne or Prosecco.

How did you entertain your guests?

We had an acoustic singer /guitar player during the drinks reception from TwentyOne Events to play some chilled R&B covers. They then provided a DJ for the evening reception who played alongside their saxophonist! We wanted to keep some of that Ibiza feel so we felt like a saxophonist was the perfect way to do that! All our guests loved it and the dance floor was full for the entire evening!

We also had a photo booth from The Burbage Booth Company which our guests loved! The props were really high quality and the package also included a guest book which they printed extra copies of the photographs so our guests could sign it. We were able to choose from a big range of backgrounds and could also personalise our template for the print outs to match the rest of our wedding theme.

All of our guests also mentioned how amazing the bar was. They loved Thomas and how entertaining he was whilst making their cocktails!

What are your Top Tips for planning a Sailcloth wedding?

The beauty of a sailcloth wedding is that you can completely personalise the whole thing around you as a couple. However in saying this, there are so many things to think about that you might not ordinarily think of with a traditional wedding venue. So you need to try and be super organised. I wrote everything down in one notebook so I could refer back to it!

The other thing would be to try and book your main suppliers as soon as you have set your wedding date. Especially photographer, food, bar and DJ. You don’t realise how far in advance suppliers get booked up. So if you really want a particular supplier on your wedding day, you need to be organised. There isn’t one supplier we would change from our wedding day. We would highly recommend every single one of them, so we are glad we booked everything in advance!

Another thing to be mindful of is that being in a Sailcloth, there is no decoration that already comes with the venue. We DIY’d a lot of this ourselves from buying all the vases, candles and candlesticks. As well as making our own signage, favours and ceremony backdrop.
