What if it Rains on your Wedding Day?

Rain on your wedding day might seem like an unwelcome guest! But it can definitely add a touch of magic and intimacy to your celebration. While you may have envisioned clear skies, a little can bring unique opportunities for creativity. Which your photographer will LOVE!

Be Prepared

The weather is one thing you can’t control. Whilst it’s good to be optimistic about a sunny wedding day, it’s also good to be realistic. We do live in Great Britain after all, so having a plan B in place is always a good idea! If you’re having on the Day Wedding Management, your co-ordinator will also be able to help you with this.

If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, your plan B could be moving it inside onto the dance floor. The beauty of having your ceremony outside is you will likely have a celebrant conducting it. The celebrant will generally only have your wedding that day. If it is raining at the time you’re due to walk down the aisle, it might be that clearer skies are forecast for half an hour later. This is where the celebrant will be able to suggest holding off for a little bit, to see if the rain clears.

Talk to your suppliers

Your suppliers will have lots of experience of outdoor weddings, so lean into them. Find out what their plan B suggestions would be for rain. Your photographer will certainly want to embrace the weather, due to the atmospheric feel it can bring to your photographs. If you’re having food vans, speak to them about what they can do to. They will have ways to avoid your guests standing in the rain whilst waiting for their food. They will all have strategies in place for a seamless change to plan B if need be.

Think Accessories

If rain is forecast this is where you can accessorise to be ready. Have some wellies on hand! Personally we love to see the photo’s of the Bride, dress hitched up, wellies on and well and truly embracing that puddle! We’re always hearing the line, “if your dress isn’t at least a little bit dirty, you haven’t had enough fun!”

You’ll also need umbrella’s. These will also be a welcome accessory for your guests, if your budget can stretch to it. You can always store these in a basket in the doorway of the structure. With all the different styles of umbrellas out there you could really go to town!

Embrace It!

We know it can be easier said than done, but remember, rain on your wedding day is considered good luck! As long as you’re prepared and you can roll with the weather as it happens. It can actually add that bit more magic to your day. I mean, how many people do you know who have a Rainbow as a back drop for their wedding photo!

If we know the weather is going to bring a bit of a chill to your day, we do have weather contingencies in place. We can bring in heaters, or clear frontage put up on the Tipis to keep the wind out. You might also want to bring an array of blankets in, that your guests could use to keep warm. You can pick these up pretty cheaply from Ikea.
