Holly and Ollie’s Tipi Wedding with heaps of FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD!

Wanting to create a wedding day, that they wanted, Holly and Ollie knew an outdoor wedding would give them just that. The flexibility to have it where they wanted, with the guests they wanted and most importantly, the Suppliers they wanted. And oh boy, did they go to town with the Food Vans!

What made you decide on an outdoor wedding?

We knew we wanted our wedding to be exactly as we imagined it, and a lot of venues had their own rules / packages in place, which we wanted to avoid. Having an outdoor wedding meant that we could choose every element of the day ourselves and create a fun, relaxed environment for the guests.

Where did you choose to celebrate, what helped you to make that decision?

We chose to celebrate at The Hideaway, Ticknall Derbyshire because it felt secluded and cosy. The field was big enough to have everything we needed but small enough for all of the guests to stay together and to feel very private.

What date did you celebrate, was there any reason for your date choice?

We chose to celebrate on 20th July because we knew we wanted a summer wedding and there were no major sporting events on that weekend.

What did you both wear, what about the rest of the bridal party?

Ollie and his groomsmen all wore the same pink suit from Reiss. I wore an off the shoulder dress from Coast in the daytime and a sequined and feathered mini dress in the evening from Lavish Alice. My three bridesmaids wore beautiful full length sage green dresses from Pretty Lavish.

How would you describe your ceremony, where did it happen, how did it happen?

Our ceremony was at 3pm at the bottom of The Hideaway, in the same field as the Tipi. As we were already legally married our friend, Tom, performed the ceremony. This meant that it was a more casual ceremony and super personal to us, which we loved.

How did you feed your guests in the day and then evening? What influenced your menu choice?

We had three amazing street food vans with us the whole day, serving from 4-10:30pm. We also had an ice cream van come from 6-8pm. Guests could get food whenever they wanted within those times and try as many of the food vans as they wanted. We had pizza from Alpine Pizzas, Tacos from Let’s Taco ‘Bout it and Pad Thai and Korean Fried Chicken Burgers from One UK.

How would you describe your theme/styling? Did you DIY this, work with a stylist or dry hire items?

Our theme was bright pink and orange, with disco balls dotted here and there. We wanted to work with the colour of the Tipi and keep everything feeling warm and summery. We dry hired some streamers from Streamadelica and DIY’d the rest of the décor ourselves. Our main décor were the flowers, which were done beautifully by Chloe at Wild By Nature.

How did you entertain your guests?

We had a saxophonist in the daytime by Music Students For Hire and Oliver was just amazing. In the evening, we had The Dawn Chasers who were incredible. The dance floor was always full, and they even let the boys sing a few songs at the end.

What are your Top Tips for planning a Tipi wedding?

Embrace the freedom you have with this type of wedding. Make a plan for rain just in case but try not to worry about bad weather too much. We checked the weather forecast 5 times a day in the lead up to the wedding but despite the weather forecast threatening rain for most of the day, we only had two showers in the evening. This was perfect as it drew everyone inside and on the dance floor!

Suppliers You Used, Loved and would trust to recommend?

All of our suppliers were incredible and couldn’t have done more to make it a perfect day. We would recommend all of the suppliers listed, plus the bar we hired, Proseccart, and of course, Sami Tipi. A special mention to our photographer, Magda K, and our videographers, LeeLea Films, who both captured the day so beautifully.

If you could relive one part of your day, what would it be and why?

The excitement and relief post ceremony, as we said hello to everyone and relaxed into the day.
