We are very lucky at Sami Tipi. We have such wonderful couples to work with who all have amazing ideas for their wedding days. From how they want them to be styled, to the type of food they will be serving, each one is unique.
Amy and Dan’s wedding was no exception. They were clear from the start that they wanted a glamorous feel to their tipi wedding and enlisted the help of suppliers that specialised in this type of styling. You can see from the photos that they achieved exactly what they were after and boy does that look like a good party!!
What made you decide on an outdoor wedding?
We knew right away that an outdoor wedding was right for us. Dan’s family have a farm so we had the perfect outside space to put the tipi on which was personal to us. I loved the idea of a tipi because it literally gave us a blank canvas for every aspect of the day from the layout of the tipi ‘rooms’, the decoration inside and all of the suppliers such as caterers and dance floors. With a venue wedding, you just don’t get that level of choice. A tipi was well worth the extra spend against a standard marquee. It looked spectacular set up on the farm and it gave a fun and intimate atmosphere.
What did you both wear and what about the rest of the bridal party?
I wore a mermaid shape, beaded dress by Sophia Tolli and Dan (and the ushers) wore a modern tails suit. We wanted to look glam but modern. Our bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo multiway dresses and they looked gorgeous.
Tell us about your ceremony.
We went for a church ceremony a short distance from the tipi in our home village. We loved having this traditional aspect of the day contrasted with the modern and fun tipi reception.
How did you feed your guests in the day and evening and what influenced your menu choice?
We used Kit Bamford catering as he was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. We had a sit down three-course meal with round tables. The main course was roast lamb and on each table we chose one guest to be the meat carver and gave them a personalised apron with their name and our wedding date embroidered on. This was a lot of fun and our meat carvers were really chuffed. Late at night fish and chips were served and they went down very well.
How would you describe your theme/styling?
We wanted a glam look contrasted with a fun and relaxed atmosphere. We were really excited when we discovered tipis but we didn’t want to go with the popular vintage or very causal decoration which seems to be popular with tipi weddings. We used Debonair venue stylists to break the rules and create a glamorous and elegant setting inside the tipi with pale peonies and roses, plenty of foliage, metallic and romantic candles – our vision was delivered perfectly! We chose Debonair as they are well experienced in this theme.
What are your Top Tips for planning a tipi wedding?
The most valuable aspect of our tipi wedding was hiring a wedding day coordinator. We used Sian from Top Banana Weddings. It allowed us to completely relax on the day knowing that Sian had our schedule in-hand and was orchestrating our suppliers and she also ran out to buy more lemonade when the bar ran out. A great piece of advice we were given was to hold off on the music and dancing until the sun was starting to set. As our day was in the summer, all our guests wanted to be outside whilst the sun was up. When the music started at sunset everyone was ready to get on the floor and pretty much every guest was dancing all night – the atmosphere was amazing. Finally, I’d say plan for rain! It didn’t rain on our day but we had peace of mind knowing that we had a rain plan of moving tables out of the way and bringing in more seating if we needed it. We also had a big basket of blankets for the evening time which guests did use much later on, to relax outside with around a fire pit.
